About This Game
As Kisaragi Academy student Mayu Suzumoto prepares for a transfer to a new high school, she must leave behind a large group of friends and numerous happy memories. To help her cope with the transition, her friend Ayumi devises a seemingly harmless plan: the entire group will gather to perform a charm she discovered online called “Sachiko Ever After,” intended to bond all participants as friends forever.
This plan goes terribly wrong.
Following a massive earthquake, the group awakens separated and confined in an alternate dimension of Heavenly Host Elementary, a school marked by tragedy that formerly stood on the grounds of their current school but was demolished long ago. In this place, the angry spirits of elementary-aged children threaten their lives and mental stability, and the only hope of escape—let alone survival—relies on discovering the horrific details surrounding the deaths of those trapped before them.
Corpse Party is the original Windows edition of the cult classic horror game that built a significant fanbase upon its PlayStation®Portable release in 2011. Originating as an independent RPG Maker title in 1996, the gameplay was significantly refined and the story expanded for this 2008 remake, featuring additional characters, more intricate interactions, darker narrative elements, over 5,000 lines of voice-acting, and dozens of shocking, gruesome endings. Players control nine main characters and several side characters who have been split into small groups and trapped in a dilapidated, otherworldly elementary school filled with vengeful spirits, deadly mysteries, and, of course, corpses. As they explore the 2D environment examining objects and bodies, a horror story spanning over 50 years unfolds, and player choices dictate both the ending of the story and who survives to see it.
Modeled after the very first RPG Maker Corpse Party, the game’s 16-bit-style 2D visuals create a deliberate disconnect that stimulates the imagination, leading players to envision horrors worse than what any next-gen system could display.
Adventure Gameplay Where Choices Matter
Functioning as a hybrid of a point-and-click adventure game and a classic JRPG without battles, Corpse Party grants players the freedom to explore every corner of Heavenly Host Elementary School. The story's path and final conclusion are significantly altered by the characters' movements and actions.
Chapter-Based Narrative with PC-Exclusive Content
The story is told through five main chapters, each with multiple endings, and includes scenes that differ from the PSP™ and Nintendo 3DS™ versions. Additionally, there are four bonus chapters, one of which is a PC-exclusive retelling of the “Tooth” story from Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, recreated with extra content in the classic Corpse Party adventure style.
Original Japanese Voice Cast, Art, and Text Skip
Over 5,000 lines of spoken Japanese dialogue from the original indie voice cast accompany the action, offering fresh takes on familiar characters for series veterans. The original PC-exclusive character art is preserved, and a fast-forward function is provided for players seeking every ending to make replays efficient.
The Franchise's Origin
Upon its 2008 release, this title ignited a Corpse Party phenomenon in Japan, inspiring remakes, sequels, spin-offs, fan games, manga, anime, a live-action drama series, and more, as well as countless Corpse Party-inspired horror games from other indie developers. Discover how it all began and experience the horror as it was intended to be seen...
