Rust is currently in its 13th year of ongoing expansion, featuring over 395 content updates and a guaranteed content patch every month. Updates include balance fixes, AI and graphics improvements, environmental changes, and new content like maps, weapons, vehicles, and utility items. Watch for seasonal events that bring unique or dangerous happenings. The game features procedurally generated worlds with community map editor support, self-hosted servers with server-side modding, and various transportation methods including horses, modular cars, hot air balloons, helicopters, bikes, trains, and boats. Players can engage in base building and raiding, encounter new factions and wildlife, explore advanced underwater areas, and use complex electrical, farming, and automation systems. Recent additions include new monuments, terrain, overground and underground train networks, musical instruments, massive graphics upgrades, primitive game modes, siege weapons, and a new Jungle biome. 2026 brings modular boats, deep sea exploration, tropical islands, floating cities, and more. Future updates will include character model updates, an apartment complex monument, new animals, and cave upgrades. To Explore, you wake naked on a mysterious island with a rock and torch. You must brave environmental hazards like heat and cold, thirst, and starvation, build shelter, eat, and scavenge. Navigate abandoned settlements, monuments, and occupied factions while watching out for other survivors. To Build, design and construct bases to store loot, defend territory, and control resources. Research the tech tree, grow farms, utilize electricity, and commandeer transportation to traverse the island. To Survive, there are no rules except those you make. Craft tools, armor, and weapons for defense. Cooperate with friends to form alliances and settlements, or prey on others by raiding bases and stealing their goods.
