About This Game

"Um, so. Are you... maybe one of the Dead, too?" A curious and haunting narrative awaits. Is the Saint who descended into this isolated village bringing salvation, or is it the end? This occult horror visual novel is crafted with mystical visuals and talented voice artists. "What ending do those eyes desire, little watcher?" The game features gorgeous cut-paper art style that blurs the line between realism and surrealism, taking you into a mysterious world that is not quite two or three-dimensional. Animated by the two-person team at CAVYHOUSE and voiced by professional Japanese actors, Midnight Sanctuary comes to life in unexpected ways. Note that voice audio is in Japanese. Daiusu Village is a settlement built by Christians oppressed during the Tokugawa era. Isolated from the outside world, unique and dubious traditions and ceremonies form the foundation of the villagers' beliefs. As time passes and eras change, the inhabitants decide to modernize. They build a striking church and invite pastor Hamomoru Tachibana to serve as local historian, documenting their history alongside the village head's son Jyuan Daiusu and church leader Kurosu Okada. As Hamomoru meets the villagers, she discovers their powerful faith in a local saint. Outsiders are treated specially as Guests, including a revered girl in red who arrived earlier. Hamomoru agrees to take on the role of village coordinator, but this lasts only a moment as an aloof, unworldly girl in white arrives. In the ensuing mania, Hamomoru discovers the other face of the village. Daiusu Village has a unique aspect to life. A history of tragedy and gloom comes to light where the living rush to greet death, and the Dead find fulfillment. A story woven by invisible hands awaits you. What will you see, Watcher?
